Prof. Dr Alexander Filipović, born in 1975 in Duderstadt in Eichsfeld (Germany), is a social ethicist specialising in media ethics, technology ethics, political ethics and philosophical pragmatism.

After studying Catholic theology, communication science and German studies, Alexander Filipovic received his doctorate in 2006 with a dissertation on media ethics in Bamberg. His habilitation thesis at the University of Münster in 2012 explored fundamental questions of Christian social ethics in discussion with philosophical pragmatism.

At the Institute for Christian Social Sciences at the University of Münster, he was editor of the Yearbook for Christian Social Sciences 2009-2013. Until January 2021, he was Professor of Media Ethics at the Munich School of Philosophy. There, together with Klaus-Dieter Altmeppen, he directed the zem::dg - Centre for Ethics of Media and Digital Society (www.zemdg.de), coordinates the Network Media Ethics (www.netzwerk-medienethik.de), runs a blog (www.unbeliebigkeitsraum.de) and co-edits the media ethics journal Communicatio Socialis (www.communicatio-socialis.de). In 2018-2020, he worked as an expert member of the German Bundestag's Commission of Inquiry on Artificial Intelligence and is an advisor to the German Bishops' Conference.
