Peace Ethics

Although the boundaries between political ethics and peace ethics are often fluid, within Christian social ethics there is a particularly intensive engagement with peace, war, and violence. The so-called "Christian Peace Ethics" is a historically developed sub-discipline of social ethics with a long tradition in the church's social teachings. Central to this are questions about the legitimacy of violence, war, and conflict, as well as the conditions for achieving peace in a global world. Christian peace ethics is characterized by a pacifist concern, reflected in today's central guiding principle of just peace (cf. Frühbauer 2022, 485ff.).
