Network "Ethics and Politics in the European Context"

For the period 2022/23, the network is only active as an umbrella network.

In the academic year 2011/2012, the network "Ethics and Politics in the European Context" was founded by the Institute for Social Ethics, Catholic Theological Faculty, University of Vienna (em. Univ. Prof. MMag. Dr. Ingeborg Gabriel) in cooperation with the Association for Social Ethics in Central Europe.

The academic starting point for the network was the fact that in the last two decades there have been many fundamental changes in the political as well as economic spheres in the countries of Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe. Many countries in this region are in the process of becoming free democracies. In this process, ethical questions arise which are closely linked to the socio-political, cultural and historical experiences of the individual countries. For this reason, various types of exchange (also among the countries themselves) are necessary, both in teaching and in research. Particular attention is paid to promoting interdisciplinary and interconfessional exchanges.

Currently, professors and students from 9 countries (including Austria, Poland, Slovakia and Romania) and 15 institutes (including the Institute of Social Ethics - Vienna, the Institute of Political Science - Vienna, the Theological Faculty - Opole, the Philosophical Faculty - Trnava) have the opportunity to take part in the programme. This exchange takes place through various mobility offers, which include guest lectures, semesters abroad, research months or summer schools. CEEPUS awards scholarships for which both professors and students can apply.
