Extension Curriculum

Communication and media ethics

At the center of the EC Communication and Media Ethics are the significance of media and the individual and societal handling of media in today's world. Students acquire reflective and (philosophical) ethical competencies. They...

  • engage with key theories of media ethics,
  •

  • learn to identify, describe, and reflect on action-related problems in the media field with regard to normative questions,
  •

  • explore the political significance of public communication and its technical prerequisites from an ethical perspective, and
  •

  • have the opportunity to focus on specific topics within the field of media ethics and deepen their knowledge in an application-oriented way.

 Structure

The EC consists of one module totaling 15 ECTS. You can complete it within two semesters if you start in the winter semester. If you start in the summer semester, plan for at least three semesters due to prerequisite sequences.

Winter Semester

  • VO Communication and Media Ethics (3 ECTS)
  • UE Communication and Media Ethics (4 ECTS)

Summer Semester

  • Ethics II - Political Ethics and Social Ethics (3 ECTS)
  • SE on Political-Ethical and Thematic Specializations (5 ECTS)
Instead of the SE, lectures can also be completed.

Prerequisite Sequences

It is possible to deviate from the recommended path (see above). However, the following prerequisite sequences must always be observed:

  • Winter semester: Prerequisite for participation in the UE Communication and Media Ethics: Completion of the VO Communication and Media Ethics
  • Summer semester: Prerequisite for participation in the SE on Political-Ethical and Thematic Specializations: Completion of a non-continuous assessment course from the EC
